The 4 C's

The 4 C’s—Carat, Cut, Colour, and Clarity—are the global standard for evaluating diamond quality, and at Diamonds of Deal, we select diamonds that meet high standards across all these factors for exceptional beauty and value.

Carat

Carat weight measures a diamond’s weight, with one carat equaling 0.2 grams, but it does not directly indicate size. Factors like shape, cut, and setting influence how large a diamond appears, with well-cut stones reflecting more light for a larger look. Carat weight is a key factor in pricing, as larger diamonds are rarer and more valuable, though the price increase is not linear. Popular engagement ring sizes range between 1 to 2 carats, balancing beauty and affordability. While both carat weight and cut matter, a well-cut diamond can appear more brilliant and impressive than a larger, poorly cut stone.

Cut

A diamond’s cut determines how well it sparkles, influencing brightness (white light reflection), fire (color flares), and scintillation (light flashes). Unlike shape, cut grading applies only to round diamonds, as they are easier to measure for light performance, while other shapes receive estimated grades based on similar parameters. Cut grades range from Excellent to Poor, with an Excellent cut offering the best light performance by balancing table size and depth. The difference between Excellent and Very Good cuts is minimal, making both great choices, while a Good cut can provide excellent value—just avoid deep cuts, as they can make a diamond appear smaller than its actual carat weight.

Colour

White diamonds are graded on a colour scale from D (completely colourless) to Z (noticeable yellow or brown tint). The difference between grades is subtle and often only visible when compared side by side, with D and E being the rarest and most expensive. Diamonds graded G or H offer excellent value, appearing nearly colourless without the premium price. I and J diamonds look white from the top but may show slight tint from certain angles, while K and L have more noticeable warmth, best suited for yellow or rose gold settings. Choosing the right colour grade depends on budget and preference, balancing appearance with value.

Clarity

Diamond clarity is determined by natural imperfections formed under extreme pressure and heat, with the grading scale ranging from Flawless (FL) to Included (I3). Flawless diamonds are exceptionally rare, while those graded VS1 or higher have impurities only visible under magnification. Diamonds below VS2 may have visible inclusions, which is why Diamonds of Deal only offers diamonds graded VS2 and above to ensure exceptional quality. Common inclusions include feathers and crystals, but our carefully selected diamonds guarantee brilliance and beauty.
